T1 Dynasty Down and Out: Gen. G Sweep T1 and Take Last Spot to Worlds 2020
T1 is out! Gen. G sweep Faker and T1 3-0 in the Regional Qualifiers to steal away the region’s last spot at Worlds 2020.
To start off the series, Gen. G had Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong secure first blood in the top lane which started their snowball against T1. Despite valiant efforts on the side of T1 to even the game, Gen. G simply had better tempo and punished T1’s mistakes heavily in the mid-game.
In Game 2, T1 had a commanding lead in the early game and were poised to carry their lead with Choi “Ellim” El-lim on Elise. However, Effort repeatedly getting caught off caused T1 to lose hold of their advantage and lose footing with their early-centric team composition. Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok tried his hardest to keep T1 in the game with a heroic play on Sylas, but was all for naught as Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk’s Ezreal rampaged on the Rift.
The last game of the series had Gen. G and T1 duking it out as everything was on the line for the old-time world champions. Rascal put Canna in his place taking solo kills off the rookie on his Volibear. Coming into the mid game, T1 had a tough road ahead of them against Gen. G that had Mountain Soul and couldn’t quite deliver when it mattered.
With their loss in Game 3, T1 lost their last chance at redemption to qualify for Worlds 2020. T1 will not have a chance to reclaim their former glory once again. This will be the third time in the organization’s history that T1 will fail to qualify for Worlds.
Gen. G secures the last slot and qualifies directly to the Group Stage as the region’s third seed.
