Worlds 2020: Suning and G2 Esports Qualify for Knockout Stage
As the Group Stage of Worlds 2020 nears its end, Suning (1st seed) and G2 Esports (2nd seed) place themselves a cut above Group A as they qualify for the Knockout Stage.
In Group A, G2 Esports and Suning were the teams that the community expected to qualify right from the get go. In the first game of the group, the powerhouses went head-to-head in an intense back-and-forth that, in the end, led to a win for the European champions. Meanwhile, the Pacific Championship Series representatives in Machi Esports failed to measure up against the teams of Group A finishing 1-5 at the end of the day.
Everything was going as planned in Group A until North America’s Team Liquid were able to take an upset win against G2 Esports and Suning. With a 3-3 record then, Team Liquid were fated to tie up with Suning had they lost to G2 Esports in the last game of Day 5.
However, Suning were able to secure their slot in knockouts as they took down G2 and tied them with a 4-2 record. Suning’s win subsequently knocked out the hopeful Team Liquid from Worlds 2020.
A tiebreaker was then held between the teams with Suning taking the win away from G2 Esports once again. Despite having a chaotic game all throughout, an incredible flank by Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin’s Gangplank secured the game after a grueling 44 minutes.
With that win, the rookies of the LPL secure first seed in Group A and evade the chances of fighting tournament favorites such as Top Esports and Damwon Gaming in the Quarterfinals.
