Familiar faces face off and renew their rivalry in CODM PH Championship playoffs
Former allies turned adversaries will square off against each other as the playoffs for the CODM Philippines Championship start on September 3, Friday.
Group A winners Fantasma will go head to head against Group D winners Smart Omega, renewing the rivalry of both teams which dates back to last year in July 2020, when they met during the Philippine Pro Gaming League (PPGL) semifinals.
Fantasma and Smart Omega both hail from the same in-game clan in NRX Gaming until both teams were picked up by their organizations over the course of the past 2 months.
Fantasma in-game leader and team captain John Emanuelle “Icarus” talked about both teams’ fondness for each other and the special connection that they share.
“We will give them a good fight considering we were under the same clan before, and that speaks to our bond. We may have different teams and clans now, but we have the same mindset and goal, and that is to become the champion of this tournament and to offer the victory to Kyaaah since he is the one closest to our team.”
“Win or lose its fine but we would prefer if we win because we would be very hyped and happy, and whoever represents the Philippines it will be well-deserved for any team in the top 4,” Icarus added.
Smart Omega, formerly NRX Jeremiah, agreed to Icarus’ statement.
“Expect us to give both them [Fantasma] and the fans a good fight and win or lose, we are still brothers even beyond the game,” the team said in unison.
Group B titlists PDR Esports face Group C titlists Ultimate EPro on the other side of the bracket of playoff play.
The 4 teams will battle for the ultimate prize, the bragging rights to be declared the kings of Philippine CODM with a slot at the Garena Qualifiers at stake to ultimately qualify for the world championships.
The tournament has 990 000 pesos in the total prize pool. Games can be watched live on the official CODM Facebook and Youtube Page.
