Alanzq wins inaugural Legends of Runeterra World Championship
Legends of Runeterra crowned its first world champion earlier today when Mateusz “Alanzq” Jasiński of Team Liquid came from behind to defeat Yamato 2-1 in the grand final.
This wasn’t the first time the two players met in the tournament. Alanzq completed a reverse sweep in their Group C encounter and fortunately for the TL star, the outcome was the same when it mattered the most.

Legends of Runeterra’s biggest tournament to date saw interesting deckbuilding strategies from all over the world and the finalists’ lineups were no exception. Alanzq brought Akshan Sivir along with Ezreal Vi and Caitlyn Draven. Yamato, on the other hand, went with the more common Draven Sion and Gangplank Sejuani lists that were complemented by an odd Veigar Senna.
Yamato drew first blood with the Darkness but Alanzq dug deep to shut out the Japanese player’s Gangplank Sejuani twice in a row to win it all. With the historic win, Alanzq takes home $40,000 and immortalizes his legacy in the world of Runeterra.
