G2 Esports will “bench and look to trade” more than half of their League of Legends roster

In a video tweeted by G2 Esports founder and CEO Carlos “ocelote” Rodríguez Santiago, he gave an end to the rumors circulating his League of Legends team. He talks about the fact that the 2021 Season for the team did not go well, considering G2’s goal of winning the World Championship.

He reveals that the organization will “bench and look to trade” superstar bot laner Martin “Rekkles” Larsson along with top laner Martin “Wunder” Nordahl Hansen and support Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle. ocelote also formally announced that along with the departure of the three professional players, G2 is also parting ways with Head Coach Fabian “GrabbZ” Lohmann and Coach Sng “Nelson” Yi-Wei. G2 is also looking to replace the rest of the support staff. 

This decision sparked reactions in the community, as well as unconfirmed rumors such as Fnatic bot laner Elias “Upset” Lipp refusing to play for Fnatic because of the organization expressing intent to trade him for Rekkles for the upcoming split.

According to the Riot GCD, Wunder’s, Mikyx’, and GrabbZ’ contracts are set to end November 21, 2022, while Rekkles’ and Nelson’s end on November 20, 2023.
