Another Penalty: MPL Penalizes Omega Esports, Nexplay Evos, and Akosi Dogie
MPL-PH dished out penalties for Omega Esports, Nexplay Evos, and Setsuna “Akosi Dogie” Ignacio. This came after the match between Omega and Nexplay resulted in a violation of several rules from the MPL-PH S8 rulebook.
According to their statement, games 1 and 2 of Nexplay versus Omega in Week 7 Day 3 were deemed to have broken the rules surrounding competitive integrity and professional manners. The reason for this being both teams utilizing questionable strategies during the games with Nexplay playing Game 1 with five flameshot spells equipped while Omega turning into the feeding Diggie strat for Game 2.
With that said, MPL-PH served them sanctions and penalties with both of them fined USD $3, 000 and received a serious warning. The players who also played in both controversial games are also no longer eligible for MPL-PH S8’s personal awards selection.
Meanwhile, Akosi Dogie also received additional sanctions as he proceeded to do a prohibited pose that earned the ire of some MPL viewers. He was fined USD $500 and received a suspension for his next two matches.
This series of sanctions this season has led some fans to affectionately call the league as “MLBB Penalty League” — with the most recent penalty served just days ago.
Nevertheless, MPL-PH S8 will continue as Nexplay, Omega, RSG, Echo, Onic Ph, and Blacklist International all qualified for playoffs. The first day of the playoffs will feature Nexplay versus RSG for Game 1 and Omega versus Echo for Game 2 on October 21, 2021.
