Pokémon at weddings? Sure, we’ve seen a lot of Pokémon-themed weddings already. But custom Pokémon barongs? Well, that’s new!

Paolo “Wartortoise” Umpa’s tweet went viral over the weekend as he flaunted his custom-made Pokémon barong that featured Johto’s legendary bird duo, Ho-oh & Lugia, for his sister’s wedding.

I’ve always been a Pokémon fan, and the Johto generation were the first games I played so Ho-oh & Lugia were sorts of special to me. And my sister was getting married which is a very special family occasion so I thought of having a custom Pokémon barong made,” Wartortoise revealed.

He also stated that he found the design through Google and asked the original artist’s permission to use the said design.

I actually found the original design on Google, and I tracked down the designer, @mamathzilla, to ask permission to use the design.

It then took more than three weeks to make the custom barong as the designer made some alterations.

When I got clearance [to use the design], I shared it to the barong designer (@randolfclothing on Instagram) then [it took] a week of back & forths [because] he did some tweaks. [Tapos] 2-3 weeks of production (Then 2-3 weeks of production).

As of the time of this article’s writing, Wartortoise’s tweet garnered 2,910 retweets, 639 quote tweets, and 17.5K likes on Twitter.
