Rex Regum Qeon Philippines (RRQ PH) got past Team Big BAAM via a 2-0 sweep to move into the winners’ bracket of the VCT 2022 APAC Stage 2 Play-Ins.

Game 1 on Haven went to RRQ-PH. Their team composition utilized a tweaked double initiator setup as they opted for a more aggressive pairing of Fade (Francis Danison “Rabbet” Buñag) and Breach (Jose Eduardo “Draxii” Jamir) instead of the traditional Sova and Skye.

They started the game with a quick wipeout on BAAM and immediately cemented their lead in the first five rounds. After a timeout prior to Round 6, BAAM finally got on the board as they recouped their composure. RRQ PH, however, simply did not allow BAAM to recover as they ended the first half with an 8-4 lead. The second half told the same story, with James “2ge” Goopio recording an ace in Round 16 after he singled out and eliminated each of BAAM’s players. From there, the Filipino representatives simply sprinted their way to the finish line as they ended the game with a domineering 13-5 scoreline.

Game 2 on Ascent was still dominated by RRQ PH. Rabbet was subbed out for Vince “Flash” Medado as they went for a composition with lots of information-gathering capabilities: Sova (Flash), Fade (2ge), Killjoy (Nathaniel “Nexi” Cabero), and Raze (Kelly “kellyS” Sedillo). Meanwhile, Draxii was moved to the controller role with his Omen.

Similar to Game 1, it started well for RRQ PH as they finished the first half with a similar score of 8-4. BAAM’s Nguyễn “P1nA2k4” Nam scored an ace at Round 10 which spooked RRQ PH enough to call for a timeout. Despite that, the game ended reminiscent of Game 1 as RRQ PH finished it 13-5.

With this win, RRQ-PH moves up the bracket of Group B where they will face Bleed eSports for the first spot in the main group stage.
