Blacklist Ultimate headlines surprising results in Day 1 of Garena Regional Qualifiers playoffs
Filipino Call of Duty Mobile powerhouse team Blacklist International Ultimate has now secured an upper bracket final berth in the Garena Regional Qualifiers playoffs after an impressive showing on day 1 of play.
After an underwhelming group stage where they saw themselves losing 0-3 to both Indonesia’s ABC Esports and Singapore’s ALMGHTY, Blacklist turned it up a notch and seemingly switched gears to vault themselves to the top.
The agents in white and black started the day off by beating Thailand’s best WDC Freeslot 3-2 winning games in Search and Destroy at Standoff (7-4), Hardpoint at Takeoff (250-230), and again at Search and Destroy at Slums 7-5 to set up a rematch against ABC in the upper bracket semi-finals.
Building off their momentum from their win against WDC, Blacklist continued their rampage as they stomped the Indonesians 3-1 with wins in Search and Destroy at Slums (7-5), Control at Summit (3-2), and Hardpoint at Firing Range (250-194).
On the other hand, fellow Filipino team and Garena Masters champions Smart Omega astonishingly lost against ALMGHTY despite them having an automatic upper bracket semis slot after finishing first in Group B. They lost heartbreaking game 1 in Hardpoint at Summit 245-250, a mere 5-point difference. The Filipinos immediately bounced back in Search and Destroy at Takeoff, winning 7-3 however the Singaporeans would take the next two games in Control at Raid (3-2) and Hardpoint at Standoff (250-117) to close out the match and drop their rivals into the lower bracket.
As a result, Blacklist will now face ALMGHTY in the upper bracket finals with the first grand finals slot and the first ticket to Stage 5 at stake while Smart Omega starts their lower bracket run against Thailand’s WDC Freeslot.
Day 2 of the Garena Regional Qualifiers continues later today starting at 4 p.m. All matches can be watched live through Garena CODM’s Facebook page and YouTube channel respectively.
