HoYoverse Reveal Two New Characters for Version 3.2: Nahida and Layla
Last night, Genshin Impact developers HoYoverse announced two new playable characters for the Version 3.2 update as part of the regularly scheduled “drip marketing.”
The first one to be revealed was Nahida, otherwise known as Lesser Lord Kusanali, Sumeru’s Dendro Archon. Travelers have already met Nahida in the Sumeru Archon Quest as she played a big role in assisting the traveler in their predicaments. Nahida will be Genshin Impact’s fourth playable Archon after Venti, Zhongli, and the Raiden Shogun.

Nahida is the Archon of the Land of Wisdom, and this is reflected in her Constellation’s name: Sapientia Oromasdis. Sapientia here can be interpreted as “wisdom.”

The teaser was accompanied by a quote from a previously unheard-of character that goes by “Chief Justice Neuvillette,” who originates from Fontaine. This only raises more questions as we know next to nothing about this region.

Nahida can be expected to be a support character, especially at earlier constellations. Leaks suggest that she gains DPS capabilities at C2 and C6, but this is unreliable information and should be taken with a grain of salt.
The second character to be revealed is Layla. This came as a surprise for many as she has barely been mentioned before. Hence, all information we have of her comes from the official announcements that HoYoverse have posted throughout social media.

Layla is a five-star Cryo Sword character who, according to unofficial information, has the ability to create shields from her Elemental Skill.
“Fantastical Evening Star” Layla is described as Half-Awake, Half-Asleep, All Incredulous. She is mentioned to be a student of the Rtawahist Darshan, one of the six main schools of the Sumeru Akademiya. This particular Darshan specializes in “Illuminationism,” or the study of stars. This includes Layla’s expertise, Theoretical Astrology, and even Astronomy. In a conversation with an NPC, we can learn that the Rtawahist school believes that studying the stars will lead to the truth, and that the stars write people’s destinies.

Both Nahida and Layla will be playable on Genshin Impact Version 3.2, which can be expected to be early November. Unfortunately, no information yet about either of their abilities, talents, or materials needed have been officially released.
