In a press release sent to Esports Inquirer earlier this week, MOONTON Games received 220,000 yuan (~1.8 million Philippine Peso at 1CNY/8.22PHP) after successfully suing Riot Games’ parent company Tencent on grounds of commercial slander.

According to MOONTON’s official statement, “[Tencent] had fabricated and spread false information that was inconsistent with the facts and hindered the cooperation between the plaintiff and relevant partners.” The China Judgment Documents Networks then ordered Tencent to compensate MOONTON Games for “economic losses and reasonable expenses.”

This follows after the court discovered that Tencent “chose to entrust a local lawyer to fabricate and spread misleading information” to an Indonesian partner right before the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League was scheduled to happen. This is the latest development in a long-standing competition between MOONTON Games and Tencent, not only in the gaming industry but also in court.

Riot Games previously sued MOONTON for plagiarizing League of Legends in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Shortly after, Tencent followed up with another plagiarism and copyright infringement case, this time citing Tencent’s Honor of Kings and MLBB as the plagiarized content again.
