Pokémon GO will be celebrating the upcoming Lunar New Year with a special event within the game from  January 19 to January 23, 2023.

As with every other Pokémon GO event, the Pokémon Go: Lunar New Year 2023 event will feature several Pokémon that you can catch through wild encounters, finishing field research tasks, completing raids, and hatching 7km eggs. Here’s a complete list of what you can expect to catch:

In-Game Bonuses 

During the entirety of the Lunar New Year 2023 event, here is the list of in-game bonuses trainers can enjoy:

  • Higher chance of encountering a Shiny Darumaka
  • Higher chance for Lucky Pokémon from trades
  • Higher chance of becoming Lucky Friends
  • 2x Stardust earned from opening Gifts
  • An extra Special Trade can be made each day (two Special Trades daily)

Additionally, trainers can also choose from several bonuses as a reward for their Timed Research.

Timed Research: Lucky Wishes

Speaking of Timed Research, the Pokémon Go: Lunar New Year 2023 event will feature a timed research entitled ‘Lucky Wishes’.

Trainers will be able to access the Lucky Wishes Timed Research which rewards bonuses that revolve around either hatching eggs, the duration of Daily Adventure Incense, or collecting Stardust. On top of that, all Trainers who eagerly complete the Lucky Wishes Timed Research will receive a Lucky Egg and other items once finished.

Finally, they can also encounter any of these Pokémon when completing the timed research tasks:

  • Magikarp*
  • Azumarill
  • Combusken
  • Darumaka*
  • Galarian Darumaka*
  • Bunnelby*

*Again, these Pokémon can be shiny.

Lastly, new avatar items and Lunar New Year-themed stickers will be available in the in-game shop to purchase.
