Some of Our Favorite April Fools’ 2023 Jokes From Games and Esports Teams
April Fools’ is a great time for everyone to pull out pranks and fire up some harmless jokes for fun. As such, it’s no secret that a lot of brands will be capitalizing on it with their own sets of gags. We even got in with our own April Fools’ joke.
In no particular order, here are some of our top picks for April Fool’s this year:
Cypher’s Revenge (VALORANT)
After all the beatings (and nerfs) he experienced, Cypher stars in VALORANT’s April Fool’s video with a new game mode. Cypher’s Revenge is all about Cypher finally getting back on everyone.
The video introduces us to a new game mode: 5v1. In 5v1, getting tagged by Cypher’s spy camera will instantly immobilize his enemies, his Cyber Cage now produces multiple clones of himself (more than Yoru’s), and his broken turret (i.e. spy camera gun glitch from the early days of VALORANT) is back to terrorize everyone on the server. Cypher can now also access previously-inaccessible spots on the map and his Trapwires replicate (and kill an Astra). His ultimate, Neural Theft, can now be cast to an enemy that hasn’t died yet.
Fortunately, the trailer was just a joke (thank god). But, along with the trailer, players who logged into the game got a nifty gift from Riot Games as they were all given a new spray to commemorate April Fool’s 2023.
Besides this, VALORANT also released a joke patch update which includes making Wingman able to pick up and shoot guns, a dedicated queue for e-daters in rank, and Jett’s dash cooldown being reduced to 0.5 seconds.
All-Overseas Filipino Workers Roster (Team Secret)
Our Overseas Filipino Workers are coming home to take it all. Make some noise for the Filipino Superteam! 🇵🇭
🇵🇭 Cryocells
🇵🇭 zekken
🇵🇭 2ge
🇵🇭 tesseract
🇵🇭 ElevenZ#LabanSecret #ItLiesWithin pic.twitter.com/5piwmYn6vf— Team Secret (@teamsecret) April 1, 2023
Team Secret’s April Fool’s announcement was Pinoy-baiting at its finest. Featuring players who are currently based overseas, Team Secret’s OFW Superteam includes the likes of Matthew “Cryocells” Panganiban from 100 Thieves, Zachary “zekken” Patrone from Sentinels, James “2ge” Goopio from Rex Regum Qeon, Jon Michael “tesseract” Piga from Indian VALORANT Challengers League team Orangutan, and rising Radiant-ranked content creator ElevenZ.
Surely, this team will overperform in the next VALORANT Champions and will be the roster of the future.
Disguised Yay (Disguised)
Welcome, DSG @yay.
However, in order to afford him – we had to drop our original roster. DSG games will just be Yay by himself against the enemy team. pic.twitter.com/SwLVKo9dYg

Poking fun at a player’s unemployment, Disguised Toast’s esports team picked up Jaccob “yay” Whiteaker. However, they dropped everyone else from their original (and currently competing) roster just to afford el diablo. As such, Yay will have to 1v5 everyone in every game, every time.
im really thankful for @DisguisedToast willing to take a chance on a upcoming player like myself
i will hopefully make you all proud https://t.co/anBvbWKRSs
— yay (@yay) April 1, 2023
Yay even got in with the gag and tweeted his appreciation to Disguised Toast. “I’m really thankful for [Disguised Toast] willing to take a chance on an upcoming player like myself,” the recently kicked-out player from Cloud 9 tweeted.
Sentinels Vandal (Sentinels)
Wanna shoot like tenz or clutch like pancada? Well, you can’t. But you can use their gun

— Sentinels (@Sentinels) April 1, 2023
Everyone wants to shoot heads (in VALORANT) like Tyson “TenZ” Ngo and clutch like Bryan “pANcada” Luna. Truthfully, a lot of casual players (like myself) can’t, so we can just opt to buy their guns instead!
For their April Fools’, Sentinels unveiled their new in-game skin line! Sentinels released a teaser for their own Vandal skin (something we really do hope becomes true). The announcement (and succeeding tweet replies) went to lengths to make it look legitimate, even editing in-game photos of the Sentinels Vandal.
Let’s just hope Riot Games notice the idea and make our dreams come true.
ECHO’s Full-Body Finger Sleeve (ECHO)
For mobile gamers, do you frequently lose your finger sleeves? Often misplacing them and never being able to find them after a game? Fret not as ECHO got you covered.
For April Fools’, ECHO introduced us to their official full-body finger sleeve. Now, you can rest assured that you will finally peak at Mythic (or get hard stuck in Epic, like me) without ever losing your finger sleeves. Talk about a worthwhile investment for your pro gaming career.
Minecraft’s ‘The Vote Update’ (Minecraft)
A true gamer (at least if you’ve peaked during the 2010s) knows that Minecraft’s got the best April Fools’ updates.
This year, besides setting your launcher on fire, Minecraft went for ultimate unhinged democracy as they brought many possible updates that players can vote for. You can have a giant chicken or become King Midas himself and turn everything into gold. Curious about the update? You can check the patch update for yourself in their blog post.
That’s about it for our picks, and we know we definitely missed a lot of other gags (we can only list down a few). We hope everyone enjoyed April Fools’ Day this year.
