EDward Gaming (EDG) secured China’s first win at the VALORANT Champions Tour 2023: Masters Tokyo after they successfully pulled off an upset on Natus Vincere (NAVI) on the third day of the tournament.

EDward Gaming’s historic first win in a VALORANT international came after they defeated one of EMEA’s juggernauts, NAVI, in an impressive 2-0 sweep.

EDG’s series against NAVI commenced with a 17-15 overtime win on Fracture. The Chinese representatives were up 7-5 by halftime but their lead came crashing down as NAVI’s attacks were successful, with NAVI securing the map point in Round 21. As luck would have it, EDG then bounced back with splendid retakes and took three straight rounds to extend the game and eventually win in four sets of overtime.

The second game on Bind also went to an overtime with EDG coming out on top. After a tied first half, it was actually NAVI who forced overtime as EDG had a fantastic outing in the second half. However, unlike the first game, EDG swiftly ended the series by winning in just one set of overtime, closing the game 14-12.

In other news, NRG and FUT Esports also won both of their matches against T1 and Attacking Soul Esports (ASE), respectively.

NRG’s 2-1 victory against T1 meant that the North American team has successfully qualified for the playoffs while T1 dropped to the lower bracket of Group A.

In Group B, FUT’s 2-1 win over ASE meant that only the Turkish team will continue their journey in the tournament, simultaneously leaving EDward Gaming as the sole remaining Chinese representative in VCT Masters Tokyo 2023.
