EVO 2024 rewards Tekken 8 fans

EVO 2024 proved eventful for Tekken 8 fans globally. The event ran from July 19 to July 21, 2024, at the Las Vegas Convention in Nevada, United States. Apart from showcasing the skills of the best players in the world, fans of the game were also surprised by the return of a series staple: Heihachi Mishima.

EVO #5 for Arslan Ash

Arslan “Arslan Ash” Siddique added another EVO championship to his already extensive resume after EVO 2024. He ran Nina in the grand final against fellow Pakistani Atif “Atif” Ijaz and closed the set at 3-2. This marks his fifth EVO win after EVO Japan 2019, EVO 2019, EVO Japan 2023, and EVO 2023.

Meanwhile, the Philippines had three representatives out of the 4651 competitors. Alexandre “AK” Laverez competed under the banner of Natus Vincere and Andreij “Doujin” Albar for Blacklist International made their exit at 65th place, while Jeff “Coffee_Prinz!” Gonzales had his at 129th.

Heihachi Mishima… is Resurrected

A core character in the Tekken series, Heihachi Mishima, is confirmed as a DLC character for Tekken 8. The reveal comes after his presumed death in Tekken 7, with Tekken director and producer Katsuhiro Harada even saying “Heihachi Mishima is completely dead!” at the EVO Tekken 8 showcase last year.

Heihachi Mishima is the DLC character for Autumn of Season 1, following Eddy and Lidia. This announcement has divided the community: many are excited about his return and new appearance, while just as many believe he should stay out of Tekken 8, especially with the introduction of his daughter Reina.
