MPL-PH Season 14 to introduce “open transfer” system
MPL Philippines Season 14 is implementing changes to the tournament: The biggest among these is the new “global open transfer,” allowing teams and organizations to revamp their rosters in the middle of the season.
MPL-PH Global Open Transfer explained
With this new system, “MPL-PH teams are free to recruit, release, or trade players with another during the transfer windows,” according to MOONTON Games. This includes overseas players, free agents, and coaching staff, provided that everyone involved follows due process and does not breach any contracts.
Before this change, organizations could only exchange players mid-season between their respective MPL and MDL (ML:BB Development League) teams. In the past, some teams even opted for “10-player rosters,” subbing players in and out in search of the perfect blend of players.

This being the case, the minimum requirement of 6 players and a maximum of 10 for each team remains instated. MOONTON clarifies that teams can only perform transfers in-between weeks, and not during a regular season weekend.
Points, Tiebreakers, and Brackets
On top of this new transfer system, the upcoming season will also introduce an updated point system and a better methodology for tiebreakers.
The new point system will award teams with 1 point for winning a best-of-three during the regular season, and 0 points for losing the match.
This new system, albeit simple, makes head-to-head matchups easier. If teams have the same amount of points by the end of the season, the tiebreaker hierarchy is as follows:
Following the new point system, the new playoff bracket for MPL-PH S14 will reward top-ranking teams even more. Additionally, the lower bracket final will now be a best-of-seven, compared to previous seasons’ best-of-five.
MOONTON Games is planning on rewarding fans more this season, too, with various initiatives involving avid league supporters.
The MPL Philippines Season 14 begins on August 16, 2024.
