6.84 Patch Notes Out; Rave Team Weigh in on Changes
Aside from the much awaited announcement for the invited teams in this year’s The International, Valve released the latest patch earlier today.
The changes are set to go live later this week. The 6.84 patch updates includes cooldown reduction mechanics, new items, and new Aghanim’s Scepter upgrades for a number of heroes, among other gameplay updates and tweaks.
These changes will again shift the dynamics in-game especially in the professional scene. These changes are meant to shake up this year’s The International, Dota 2’s grandest tournament series.
With the changes certain to impact and influence existing strategies, members of the professional community weighed in on 6.84 will change the way Dota 2 will be played in the coming months.
Popular Dota 2 streamer and YouTube personality Siractionslacks thinks that it is an incredible support patch. “Lots of things we we asking for, like wards only taking one spot and fantastic new support oriented/caster items. [It’s] very needed after the “run four cores” metagame of 6.83.”
According to Rave’s Michael “ninjaboogie” Ross, teamfights will be a lot different compared before especially with the new items although it will take some time for people to get used to the latest patch.
“It will take some time for people to get used to the new items but once people know how to use them properly, clashing will be different from how it used to be,” said ninjaboogie.
“I really like the Guardian Greaves and Lotus Orb concept,” added the support player from Rave.
Not all changes have been received as warmly, however. One of 6.83’s most popular and highest win-rate heroes in the competitive scene, Troll Warlord, was slapped with tweaks meant to curb its power level. Ninjaboogie, however, feels that the nerfs were not significant enough.
With all the changes made in-game eSports Inquirer, along with some members of the pro-scene, listed some changes that might become game changers in-game especially with upcoming The International.
Guardian Greaves
This item is geared towards the support heroes. This item will potentially make space for supports to have another utility item especially with the increase of AOE bonus gold based on the heroes net worth.
Lotus Orb
The dispell combined with Echo Shell that re-targets spells back to the caster is what makes this a potential core item. This can also be very useful during teamfights, perfect for counter-initiating and/or defensive strategies.
Octarine Core
The cooldown reduction plus the spell lifesteal can grant magic heroes to maximize their full potential.
Aghanim’s Scepter Upgrade for Nyx
Nyx upgrade offers a lot of potential when it comes to gaining or maintaining map control. His new skill, Burrow can create space for initiating team fights or waiting for reinforcements.
Aghanim’s Scepter Upgrade for Centaur
With the 70% damage reduction for any incoming attacks, Centaur becomes really viable in a lineup since the enemy will find it difficult to counter-initiate. Also escaping from ganks will be a lot easier.
