MVP.HOT6ix to Main Event, MVP.Phoenix to Wildcard as TI 5 SEA Qualifiers Come to a Close
After four days of head-wrecking games and bloody clashes, the Southeast Asia Qualifiers of The International 5 finally wrap up as MVP.HOT6ix beat MVP.Phoenix, 3-1, in an all-Korean final in order to determine who gets the much-coveted main event slot for this year’s largest Dota 2 tournament, which has just reached a total prize pool of $10,245,382 (P456,369,000) at the time of writing.
MVP.HOT6ix, the top seed coming from Group A, previously bested their sister team, 2-1, in the upper bracket of the SEA TI 5 Qualifiers. This paved the way for another “El Clasico” between arch-rivals MVP.Phoenix and Rave in the lower bracket final.
MVP.Phoenix, on the other hand, will go on to the Wildcards to face CDEC, North American Rejects (NAR) and the runner-up of the European Qualifier for the final two slots for the main event at the Key Arena in Seattle.
How did PH teams fare in the playoffs?
Two Filipino teams in the form of Rave and TNC Gaming actually reached the playoffs. As a matter of fact, MVP.Phoenix had to fight a tiebreaker with Rave in order to determine who starts at the upper bracket and who drops to the lower bracket of the TI 5 SEA Qualifiers.
Given that TNC Gaming already began in the lower bracket by virtue of finishing second place in Group A, Rave had to win the Group B tiebreaker match in order to have a better chance in the upper bracket. However, MVP.Phoenix took matters into their hands and forced the Incheon-based Filipino team to fight TNC in the semi-finals of the lower bracket.
After going the full distance, Rave beats TnC, 2-1, to proceed to the last match of the lower bracket against MVP.Phoenix. Rave did their best, but at the end of the day, it is the Korean side which got the upper hand with a 2-0 clean sweep, thus ending the Filipino team’s journey to Seattle.
With these results, the final day of the TI 5 SEA Qualifiers are concluded and teams will have another year to prepare for the next edition of TI.
Here are the final results for the TI 5 SEA Qualifiers:
Main Event Slot: MVP.HOT6ix
Wildcard Slot: MVP.Phoenix
3rd place: Rave
4th place: TNC Gaming
