The Legend of the s4 Rune

Gustav “s4” Magnusson is widely regarded as one of the best mid players in the Dota 2 professional scene. Known for his insane Magnus abilities, s4 just delivers. Check it out for yourself:

s4 apparently has an uncanny amount of luck when it comes to spawning a Haste rune in his Dota 2 games. The record is believed to be eight Haste runes spawning for the Swedish Dota 2 legend’s favor in a single game. The many casters of Dota 2 have even started calling the Haste rune, the s4 rune. Rightly so. Maybe IceFrog should take note and make the change official.

While other players like Jacky “EternalEnvy” Mao aren’t so lucky.

There are currently six runes in Dota 2, each giving you a special powerup. With the exception of the bounty rune which gives gold and experience, the other 5 runes gives you some form of combat advantage

Doing the Math would be something like this…

That should just be one out of every ten runes! But s4 has the magical ability to catch at least eight Haste runes in a single game!

Blackjack has a little thing called ‘counting cards’. Maybe Dota 2 has a thing called ‘counting Haste runes’.

Anyway we look at it, s4 just might be an actual probability wizard.

s4’s current team, Secret, beat out Russian giants Team Empire to come out on top at the MarsTV Dota 2 League 2015 just a couple of days ago. That is their 2nd straight Gold LAN tournament this year after claiming The Summit 3 last month. Here is s4, doing what he does best: counting run– I mean wreaking havoc for his team in the tournament clinching match.

So maybe s4’s powers aren’t strictly limited to the Haste runes but to the whole fabric of the Dota 2 universe (no, not you Sahil Arora.) itself. Observe this photo of Team Secret after winning the Mars TV Grand Final.

See that smug look? We’re not saying he’s a bad guy (I’m sure he’s super swell. He is the son of Magnus afterall), but he might actually have magic powers.

Well played, Gustav. Well played.
