Doublelift on Team SoloMid’s Failure at Worlds: “I won’t take it for granted.”
In a break from his brash and cocky persona, Team SoloMid’s Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng published a heartfelt post on TwitLonger apologizing to his teammates and fans.
Team SoloMid was eliminated from the playoff round of this year’s Worlds event by Chinese squad Royal Never Giveup. TSM entered the tournament as the Western favorite, after they conquered the NA LCS split with a nearly undefeated record of 17-1.
In his post, Doublelift said that he wanted to be the one to blame for TSM’s loss as he knew he played below his caliber, being constantly outclassed by RNG’s botlane.
“I know I didn’t play well, that I didn’t play like myself, that we were outclassed against RNG’s bot lane. My teammates know it too, and yet I think they still blame themselves for our losses.”
“They all focus on the burden of their own mistakes, but I wish they would just blame me and be done with it. It’s both beautiful and terrible when you learn to win as a team and lose as a team,” he said.
Though Doublelift ended the NA LCS split with a 6.0 KDA, his performance at Worlds only netted him a 2.9 KDA — well below the other starting ADCs at the tournament.
The devastating setback has kept Doublelift off social media following their loss. The traditionally opinionated ADC ended his post by saying that the losses will not go unheeded.
“An entire year of sweat and toil, of heated arguments and conflict, of disappointment and failure. I’ll never forget that it ended like this, but there’s also the other side. The dumb jokes we made, the friendship and brotherhood we built, the learning and growing we went through, the triumph of winning NALCS and trying our best at Worlds. I won’t take it for granted.”
