BM or Beemo? Teemo Top Picked by Axis Empire in LoL Sea Tour
And no, they didn’t win.
Tam See “ShiNe” Kheing — the top laner for Malaysia’s Axis Empire — selected Teemo in the final drafting phase of their second game against Philippine representative Team Liyab in the League of Legends SEA Tour Summer Split. A Teemo last pick.
Axis picked the infamous Yordle champion into a Kennen wielded by Liyab’s Korean import Lee “GGamza” Joo-young. This was considered a questionable decision because of Teemo’s general competitive viability. The community was divided; while some viewers in live chat were amused, others saw it as disrespectful to the match and league.
Esports by Inquirer.net reached out to Liyab about this situation. Here’s what their coach, Akarawat “Cabbage” Wangsarat had to say:
“I don’t think it’s a disrespect. It was more like a quarrel within the team, since Shine’s Jax only had 1.6k damage and was shutdown really hard in Game 1.”
Liyab remains undefeated in the LoL Sea Tour with its win over Axis Empire. Gerald Sobrepena, the team’s Marketing and Player Development Manager, said that their streak is largely due to their approach this season: they treat each game with the same importance.
The LoL SEA Tour Summer Split continues on Friday, August 8 at 8PM with a match between Liyab and MEGA Esports. Now in its 4th week, the overall winner will represent the region at the 2019 League of Legends World Championship.
