ESGS 2019: 5 Things We Loved About the Biggest PH Video Game Convention of the Year
The Esports and Gaming Summit made its way back to the SMX Convention Center for its 6th year and once again proved to be an absolute joy for video game enthusiasts all over the country. Here are 5 things we loved about the event:
Mammoth-sized tech booths
Leading tech hardware brands like Lenovo Legion, Asus ROG, and Acer Predator went all out and displayed their newest products in booths you couldn’t exactly call booths because they were so huge and so impressive that it seemed like they were in a world of their own.
Each brand had a unique ace up its sleeve too: Acer flaunted their all-in-one gaming chair the Predator Thronos, Asus ROG had a mini-rave (with an actual DJ, of course), and rock band Chicosci even performed on the roof of the Lenovo Legion booth to close out day 2 of ESGS.
An abundance of freebies and giveaways
Game publishers like Keybol Games and GameNow, and gaming hardware brands such as Razer and HyperX offered free goodies in exchange for completing quests or beating other participants in minigames. The prizes ranged from lanyards to mousepads to even waifu body pillows.
Meeting your favorite character
The gods of games and anime have blessed us once again with cosplayers of all shapes and sizes roaming the halls of the convention center. After winning all that free stuff from giveaways, snapping a photo with your favorite character is surely a bonus.
Games by local indie developers
The International Game Developers Association – Manila organized Indie Festa, a platform in which local independent game developers were able to showcase their latest projects. Being a huge fan of indie games myself, I was thoroughly impressed by the wide variety of games local developers had to offer. Initiatives such as these will definitely benefit the country’s indie game development scene in the long run.
ESGS was huge, literally
The 3-day event took up all 4 exhibition halls of the SMX Convention Center in Pasay and it was 3 days long for a good reason. You could easily spend an hour or two trying out next-gen gaming hardware, signing up for freebies and awaiting raffle draws, or simply getting caught up by whatever is happening up on the main stage. ESGS racked up over 42,000 attendees, and I’m sure it’s only going to get bigger next year.
