The Global Head of League of Legends Esports John Needham announced the cancellation of the Mid-Season Invitational 2020 as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to escalate across the globe.

According to their announcement, Riot’s external risk advisors modeled that the impact of COVID-19 on restrictive travel and public gathering policies will not be going away in time for MSI’s intended dates on July 3-19. As a side note, the cancellation of the international tourney will allow the regional leagues to continue with the Summer Split as scheduled.

Lastly, Needham expressed that Riot Games is still dedicated to planning for Worlds 2020 in the hopes that the pandemic will die down by the end of the year.
