Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed their next-generation console, the PlayStation 5 in a livestream called “The Future of Gaming” last Friday.

The PlayStation 5 features a futuristic design and a “deep lineup of brand new games coming to the platform”. The console will launch in two variants: a standard model with an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive, and a digital model without a disc drive.

Next-generation titles

Publishers and developers unveiled a lineup of titles that will be making their way to the PlayStation 5. Among a few of the first-party PlayStation Studios exclusives include:

The PlayStation 5’s next-generation hardware will allow these developers to deliver “rich experiences” for gamers. The improved SSD with integrated I/O will drastically improve load times, while its custom CPU and GPU will mean that the PS5 will be able to put out incredible graphics.

State-of-the-art accessories

To go with the PS5, Sony announced a host of accessories to enhance a user’s gaming experience. The list is as follows:

  • PULSE 3D™ wireless headset, offering 3D audio support and dual noise-cancelling microphones
  • HD Camera, featuring dual 1080p lenses for gamers to broadcast themselves along with their epic gameplay moments
  • Media Remote, a remote control with built-in microphone to navigate movies and streaming services with ease; and
  • DualSense™ Charging Station, for convenient charging of two DualSense™ Wireless Controllers

Sony’s all-new DualSense controllers will be supporting haptic feedback, adaptive triggers and a built-in microphone to go alongside the PlayStation 5. 

The PlayStation 5 will be launching around the holidays this 2020. Sonywill be announcing the pricing and additional details for the console at a later date.
