Former Evo Champion ‘Filipino Champ’ Banned From Tournaments After Racist Remarks
Former Evo champion Ryan “Filipino Champ” Ramirez has been banned from numerous fighting game tournaments after putting out an insensitive remark mocking the Black Lives Matter movement on Twitter.
East Coast Throwdown, Combo Breaker, and most notably, Capcom, has banned the pro indefinitely from their events due to his unacceptable behavior.
After he tweeted a reference to #WatermelonLivesMatter, Ramirez shortly apologized. He then went on to lash out at player and commentator David “UltraDavid” Graham for siding with the tournament organizers’ decision.
Ramirez has been known to make statements discriminating race and sexuality in the past years, but hasn’t been punished by organizers until now. In SCR 2010, Filipino Champ called the now three-time Evo champion Tokido a gender slur behind his back.
Earlier in April, Capcom banned Dalauan “LowTierGod” Sparrow and Christina “Ceroblast” Tran for violating their player code of conduct for racial slurs and hate speech.
