DRX Pulls Off Massive Game 1 Comeback, Breaks FURIA at VALORANT Champions 2022

DRX made the biggest comeback so far at VALORANT Champions 2022 after they overturned a 4-12 deficit in Ascent in their first game against FURIA. This comeback victory ended up breaking FURIA’s spirits which eventually led to a clean 2-0 sweep by DRX to win their first match in the group stages.

The Biggest Comeback So Far At Champions

DRX managed to secure Game 1 at Ascent despite a massive deficit that saw them pull a massive comeback from a 4-12 scoreline.

The South Korean team didn’t perform like their usual, dominant selves during the early parts of the game. DRX fell prey to Furia’s aggressive playstyle as the team trailed 3-9 by halftime. Moreover, DRX’s Yu “BuZz” Byung-chul had a fruitless entry game on Jett in the first few rounds as he went kill-less for eight rounds up until his double kill on Round 9 and only recorded an abysmal 5 kills coming into the half.

After the first four rounds of the second half, it seemed like all hope was lost for DRX as Furia pulled ahead to reach matchpoint while they were stuck with four rounds to their name. Despite that, DRX then proceeded to have a miracle run to force the game into overtime.

It all started with an eco-round victory at Round 17 where DRX was only equipped with 3 Sheriffs, a Spectre on Kim “MaKo” Myeong-gwan, and a hero Phantom buy from BuZz. After a successful anti-eco round at Round 18, DRX almost lost the game in Round 19 if it weren’t for a clutch right-click from BuZz’s Blade Storms to kill FURIA’s Jett doppelganger Douglas “dgzin” Silva. These successive round wins made FURIA play slower defaults while DRX got more and more confident with each frag they got.

Goo “Rb” Sang-Min’s performance on KAY/O was instrumental to DRX’s comeback as he recorded a 13/8/7 KDA on a +5 Kill-Deaths rating as a defender. This was most evident when Rb almost had an Ace as he clutched Round  24 with 4 kills to secure DRX a chance to win through overtime. Meanwhile, MaKo also proved himself to be useful as his plays around his smokes took multiple impactful frags for DRX.

In the end, DRX completed an insane comeback when they secured the game after three nerve-wracking overtimes.

A Demolition At Haven

Riding high from the massive comeback win, DRX demolished FURIA 13-4 in the second game on Haven.

With spirits high coming into the game, DRX kicked things off with a 5-round win streak to start the game. This promptly forced FURIA to call for a timeout to get on the board. After a disappointing first-game performance, BuZz regained his composure on Jett to produce 9 kills and a mindboggling 498 ACS. DRX then closed the first half with a 4-round lead against FURIA.

After that, it was simply a cakewalk for DRX as they ended the game on a high note through a 5-round win streak in the second half.

With their first series win, DRX moves up the bracket of Group D at VALORANT Champions 2022. Meanwhile, Furia drops to the elimination match where they will have to claw their way up to qualify for the playoffs.
