It has been ages since the last Dota 2 patch update
The Lima Major is coming in less than two weeks, but Valve is yet to announce a patch update for the major. The last patch update, 7.32d, happened in November of last year, the patch that came in a few weeks after the end of The International 11. For context, the TI11 patch was played on 7.32c, and the first 7.32 patch came in August of last year.
The Dota 2 community has been looking for a patch update to spice up the meta ahead of the Lima Major. However, with less than two weeks left until the start of the major, it’s unlikely the new patch is coming anytime soon.
Why are we looking for an update?
Esports fans always look for an update after a major tournament. Patch updates keep the game fresh, and will virtually make teams start off on the same base for the next round of matches to come.
A patch update would allow the meta to reset and create new ways to win the game. This also helps keep matches entertaining and a level playing field for all. Fans almost always hope for a nerf by the next patch after a major tournament. Failing to mettle the abuse of a certain strategy or hero pick would make games repetitive and boring, and would only come down to which team could abuse it the most.
Dota 2 is known to be quite stingy when giving out patch updates compared to its biggest MOBA rival, League of Legends. Riot Games’ flagship game rolls out game updates almost every month, which often contain:
- champion nerfs, buffs, and adjustments,
- champion visual reworks,
- minor item adjustments, and
- buffing or nerfing jungle camps and minions.
Riot Games adds huge changes to the game after the end of every season, which typically comes a month after the end of Worlds. Dota 2, on the other hand, rarely has a fixed roadmap of updates. Although it has been customary for Valve to release a patch update a few weeks before the start of a major, it looks like it isn’t happening this time.
Muerta’s rise from the grave
Another reason why Dota 2 fans have been clamoring for an update is Valve’s promise of Muerta. Announced during the TI11 grand final, fans were promised an early 2023 release. Since then, Valve has yet to announce an official release date for her.
Some fans have speculated that a gap in the update schedule like this would mean a great announcement from Valve. The last time that a huge gap happened between updates was when Valve announced Dota 2 7.00, the “new and improved” version of the game.

Whether or not the update would be another “huge” patch, the question still stands: new patch when?
