Gen.G Esports successfully defended their League of Legends Championship Korea (LCK) Championship against the goliaths of T1 last April 9th, 2023.

T1 dominated the entire regular season – they finished first with a staggering 17-1 win record, miles ahead of Gen.G at second with 13-5. Going into the LCK Spring 2023 playoffs, Gen.G and T1 first faced off in the Upper Bracket Final and it went T1’s way. Meanwhile, Gen.G had to face KT Rolster in the Lower Bracket Final to get a chance to defend their title.

The Grand Final did not go as many envisioned. T1’s dominant season plus the fact that they already beat Gen.G in the upper bracket final meant that analysts, casters, and even the audience saw this series as a quick, one-sided massacre in the favor of T1.

Since Gen.G’s win last split, two pillars of the squad have left: the botlane duo Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk and Son “Lehends” Si-woo and he two players that were brought in to replace them, rookie ADC Kim “Peyz” Su-hwan and Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong, had massive shoes to fill.

Throughout the series, Gen.G proved themselves to be the better team but also the better individuals. They had the upper hand in map control and macro calls, but Peyz especially stepped up and proved himself a worthy replacement for Ruler. Gen.G Esports came out of the grand final triumphant after a 3-1 victory.

The 17-year old rookie broke records, successfully walking the “royal road” after winning a championship in his debut season. Peyz is the youngest botlaner in the history of the LCK to win the title, on top of being dubbed the MVP of the series.

Both Gen.G Esports and T1 will represent the LCK in the upcoming Mid-Season Invitational 2023.
