Moving on to the rest of the matches on the fifth day of the tournament, both Brazilian squad LOUD and South Korean team T1 managed to sweep both of their opponents to survive the lower brackets of their respective groups.
LOUD squared off against EMEA’s Team Liquid which they won commandingly. With both groups featuring players with international titles under their belt, it was LOUD that dominated the entire series as they won Haven (13-2) and Split (13-8) with massive margins.
After the aforementioned series, it was T1 that soared higher in their elimination match against China’s FunPlus Phoenix (FPX). In the first game at Lotus, T1 pulled through after being behind two rounds coming into the second half as they proceeded to have a seven-round win streak to end the game 13-10 in their favor. Up one game, T1 gave no chance for their opponents to rise up again as they held FPX down and dominated Bind 13-7.
With the day’s results, Paper Rex completes the first batch of playoff-bound teams, joining the likes of FNATIC, DRX and Evil Geniuses. Meanwhile, both LOUD and T1 will book themselves a playoff spot if they defeat their next opponents, with LOUD off to face Natus Vincere while T1 will try to take down FUT Esports.
