Sin Prisa Gaming deny BOOM reverse sweep, VCT Pacific slot
The VCT Ascension Pacific 2024 grand final between Sin Prisa Gaming and BOOM Esports has concluded after a chaotic, edge-of-your-seat series.
BOOM comeback denied
Heading into the grand final, South Korean team Sin Prisa Gaming did not drop a single map throughout Ascension. They were 8-0 in map scores, and 105-54 in rounds. Given their domination over the teams in the competition, including Indonesian team BOOM Esports in their first faceoff in the upper bracket semifinal, SPG were the clear favorites heading into the final.

SPG took the first map, Sunset, in a dominant fashion. This was the expected pace for the rest of the game: Sin Prisa would look like they had BOOM’s number at all points.

However, BOOM bit back with a 9-3 half on Icebox. SPG went on to break the hearts of the Indonesian fans in the venue, home court buff be damned, as they won 10 out of the 11 rounds in the second half. This map put SPG on the championship point.

Next, the teams met on Lotus. BOOM remained stalwart and matched SPG this time, resulting in an overtime. The Indonesian team claimed both OT rounds, giving SPG their first map loss of the tournament and denying a clean sweep.

Haven was the exact mirror of Icebox, except the teams had switched places. The first half was a 9-3 for Sin Prisa Gaming, but BOOM seemingly changed gears during the halftime and took 10 maps in the second half. At this point, BOOM was at the cusp of a reverse sweep against the strongest team in Ascension Pacific.

The series came to a head on Bind. Viewers could not have wished for a better series to end this event: BOOM rode their momentum from the past two maps and led the first half, but SPG matched their energy in the second to bring the map to overtime. One OT became two and eventually became four. A clutch 1v3 play from Yang “Persia” Zi-on sealed the deal for the South Korean team.

This makes Sin Prisa Gaming the fourth Korean squad on the VCT Pacific lineup, joining Gen.G, T1, and DRX.
