NCR, Luzon reps grab gold in Estudyante Esports: The National Championship Season 1

Representatives from Metro Manila and Luzon won big at the recently concluded Estudyante Esports: The National Championships (EE TNC) season 1, a nationwide collegiate championship in four game titles held at Ayala Malls Circuit in Makati on Feb. 22 and at the Dark League Studios on Feb. 23.

Dynasty cemented

De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Aces solidified its dynasty after sweeping Cobra Esports of the Southwestern University-PHINMA, 2-0 in Valorant.

Despite Cobra Esports winning the first two rounds in Lotus, the Green Aces pulled off an 8-4 half, ending the game with a 13-9 score.

Game two in Pearl was more efficient for the La Sallians after the same first-half score, concluding the Valorant tournament 13-6.

The team is composed of NAOS Esports star Xavier “Xavi8k” Juan, Team Secret Academy’s star duelist Lucas “Secre” Gruenberg, Aaron Francis “Fission” Sablay, Lance Elmo “Banunu” Gacayan, Luis “Schnappi” Corpus, and Fernando Miguel “Guelson” Dy.

Alongside the trophy is a P250,000 cash prize, P80,000 for the school or its campus esports organization, and a full scholarship in one semester per member. Meanwhile, Juan was awarded P20,000 pesos as the grand finals MVP.

The team also grabbed gold in the inaugural UAAP Esports last season, defeating the UST Teletigers Esports Club.

The land of dawn for Batanguenos

Novus Bravehearts of Faith Colleges in Batangas managed to win the do-or-die game three in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) against the University of Cebu Lapu Lapu and Mandaue (UCLM) Thunder.

The Bravehearts entered the series with a 20-12 win in game one, but the Thunder bounced back, 17-28 in the second game, tying the series 1-1.

Composure gave the Bravehearts the dominance, which they displayed with a 26-8 score in game three, ultimately winning the series 2-1.

The MLBB champions were composed of Zywin “Zywin God” Pedutem, Ace King “ALASSS” Toledo, Rojan “Shazz” Macasaet, CJ “SeaJay” Santos, and Kirt Brainer “Kirttt” Trinidad.

Same as Valorant, the Bravehearts will receive a P250,000 cash prize, P80,000 for the school or its campus esports organization, with the exclusion of the full scholarship per layer in one semester.

Pedutem was awarded the grand finals MVP and will also receive P20,000.

The Phoenix rose in Summoner’s Rift

Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU) Quezon City Phoenix obliterated the Visayas bet University of San Agustin Eagles of Iloilo, 2-0.

Phoenix was composed of Michael  “Austerity” Jay, Aiman “SCP 001” Guro, Karl Emmanuel “Nezu” Aviles, John Joseph “SWOOF” Paracale, Van Micha l “UC VAN” Gestiada, and Joshua “Mid Owa” Mendoza.

Like MLBB, the Quezon City-based squad will receive the same prize, with Jay receiving P20,000 for being the grand finals MVP.

King of the Iron Fist at Estudyante Esports

On the second day, Pampanga’s best, Jean Cyrus “Zaskieee” Quizon from City Colleges of Angeles, became the king of the iron fist in Tekken 8.

He bested Visayas’ Central Philippine University Golden Lions Esports’ Zech “Zechariahcarey” Pugales, NCR’s Far Eastern University TamsFX’s Louis Martin “Bakalnation” Olaguer, and Mindanao’s Keith Lourence “Kisu” Mabao from University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines Trace Esports.

By using Zafina, Zaskieee will receive P50,000 for besting the bets from other regions. Meanwhile, P30,000 was given for second placer Zechaiarahcarey, and P20,000 for third placer Bakalnation.

Runner-ups for Valorant, MLBB, and LoL received P100,000 pesos as a cash prize and P50,000 for the school or esports organization.

More than 500 schools participated at EE TNC from major regions in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, with more than 7,000 competing student-athletes.

“It’s our honor and pride to see that there’s a lot of teams in this new program by Dark League Studios to empower our students. I’m happy and proud of every school and we hope to have more affiliate schools in Season 2,” Dark League Studios co-founder and CEO AC Valdenor said.

Dark League Studios is the company behind the EE TNC program and also organized the UAAP Esports last August.
