ICYMI: Team Secret’s Miracle Run to Playoffs
The Team Secret VALORANT roster was one of the most prominent names in Philippine esports in 2021. From having an exceptional showing locally to doing fun entrances in VCT Champions, we had a good dose of Pinoy Pride last year.
In VCT 2022: Philippines Stage 1 Challengers, the Secret squad literally could not have gotten a worse start. Read on to find out about Team Secret’s miracle run:
Weekend 1
VCT 2022: Philippines Stage 1 Challengers consists of a Group Stage and Playoffs, with the Group Stage being made up of two double-round robin groups. Each group has four teams, and Team Secret was placed in Group A with Oasis Gaming, Action PH, and Bren Esports.
In the first round-robin, Team Secret lost all matches. After the first weekend, they were sitting at a 2-6 win-loss rate, failing to pick up a win against Bren Esports. Bren made quick work of Secret; the first map concluded in a 13-1 and the second at 13-8, both in favor of Bren.

Weekend 2
After the first weekend, Team Secret was at the bottom of the group. Despite this, the team held on and did not lose faith. The second round robin began, and they looked activated. With Jeremy “Jremy” Cabrera fielded in place of Riley “Witz” Go, Team Secret went on to win every single matchup, even taking away a 13-0 win against Oasis Gaming. They only dropped two maps this weekend: Ascent against Oasis Gaming and Split against Bren Esports. Oasis Gaming had to forfeit their second map against Secret, Fracture, due to technical issues.

Team Secret concluded the Group Stage with a 3-3 scoreline, and 8-8 win-loss ratio on their maps. For rounds, 137-154 was their score.
This redemption arc shot Team Secret up to the top of the group, second only to Oasis Gaming. This means they qualify for playoffs, after losing to every team in the first week. Bren Esports, on the other hand, failed to make it to the playoffs.
